Marriage And Visas: An OverviewThe marriage of two people is great occasion that invites celebration with loved one. But it can be a bit problematic if the two people belong to different countries. With the growing phenomenon of globalization, this has become a very common occurrence. Sadly, the immigration laws dont really accommodate this popular trend much. The most common sight today is that of a newly married couple who are endlessly worried about getting the processes related to marriage and visas completed properly at the earliest. There are three types of situations that may arise in this type of marriages. The first condition is when you decide to get married in a country but you need the visa of that country as one of the spouses is not the citizen of the said country. The second situation is that when you are married and want to settle down in a new country. Then also you need to apply for the visa on marriage grounds. The third and last situation is when, you both are married for 4 years and were residing together in some other country but now youve decided to settle in U.K. In the first case, when you are planning to get married, you need to apply for fianc\'e9 visa. This visa is meant for those who arent married but want to get married in that country with a permanent legal citizen of that country. This visa is being given for a certain period of time. So youve got to get married within that time frame. In the second case, when youve already married using your fianc\'e9 visa, you need to apply for the marriage visa within that country. You apply for this marriage visa so that you get time to stay in that country. This is while you wait for your status to be adjusted as the permanent citizen of that country. This period is of two to four years in most of the cases. However, it can be extended if required. The third scenario happens when a married person who is allowed to enter the country and live there for an indefinite time wants to get settled there itself. Then, he has to get marriage visa for his spouse. There are certain conditions that are attached to this situation. For example, it is mandatory that four years of married should be proven while residing in some other country. Then, the spouse will get a visa for two years. At the completion of those two years, if both of you are still together and living in the same house, then you can apply for the change in status of your spouse as permanent citizen of that country. So, it is very clear that with changing times, marriage and visas are interdependent concepts that come into play when there is marriage between people of two different countries. |
